Future ultrasound technician Jasmine Jimenez, 9, has her sights set on Yale University while taking an unexpected detour through journalism class.

Beginning her high school journey with excitement, Jimenez is ready to take each step toward her future. Born and raised in Escondido, she has lived there her entire life and hasn’t spent much time outside the city, which makes new opportunities like journalism even more meaningful.

Family plays an important role in Jimenez’s life. She enjoys spending time with her loved ones, especially her two siblings. Whether she’s going on walks, playing games, or just hanging out, Jimenez values those connections deeply. Her biggest motivation for working hard in school is to support her family in the future.

“I didn’t expect to be in this class since my career goals are different, but I’m excited to learn and be in this class,” Jimenez said.

Even though journalism doesn’t directly align with her career goals, she is eager to explore its creative side. She looks forward to working with cameras, attending events, and meeting new people.

“I’m looking forward to the events in my upcoming high school years and making new friends,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez hopes to attend college right after high school and views each class as a stepping stone toward success.

“I’m hoping every class leads me to a good spot in life,” she said.
