Matchups secured. With the wrestlers curious for the finalized lineup, Assistant Coach Tyler Muehlhauser gathers his team and goes over each matchup before they take the mat at their home dual meet. Quetzale Mendoza listens along with the rest of the team for their match against Sage Creek High School. “Stay in the fight, its okay to be strong,” Tyler Muehlhauser said. During the game Banuelos was moved from midfield to center forward. “Being pushed up made me feel like the coach saw that I had the potential to shoot. From mid you don’t need to shoot as much, you just need to control the ball,” Banuelos said. Before the game against Rock Academy the Boys Basketball team got the chance to pray and encourage each other before receiving encouragement from their coaches. “I think our coach supports us pretty well. He never brings us down. He always hypes us up,” Varsity Player Noah Reynoso, 12, said. Varsity Basketball Assistant coach, Brian Gallo felt the long time friendship between the coaches has helped them have strong communication in order to effectively support their team. Circle of trust. Athletes huddle up together for a team prayer before their match. Markus Maramba, 10, and Anthony Trejo, 10, look to their teammates reassuringly as they follow with the prayer. The team is very close with one another. To them, these prayers are natural and boost their morale. “I pray before a game. Even just a short prayer keeps me calm and confident,” Maramba said. On the court, they’re teammates, but when it comes to being outside of sports and school, these players have grown together and gotten closer, looking towards each other for support and encouragement.
