Costumes may have been packed away after Halloween, but the teachers and staff around campus weren’t done dressing up. From Monday, Nov. 3 until Friday, Nov. 7, faculty members participated in their own themed spirit week.
The dress up days were planned by several teachers, including Culinary Arts teacher Kristi Sovacool, Assistant Principal Tessa Riley, ASB Director Lania Padilla and Student Media Adviser Jessica Young. The dress up days coincided with the “Fall Back” time change, as well as the campus culture PRIDE revisit for students.
On Monday, periods one, three and five did campus-wide activities to remind Patriots of the PRIDE concept for campus. Students in first period had to collaborate to escape a zombie apocalypse, while period three completed an escape room. Period five worked together to identify campus issues and areas of improvement to be presented at the Student Senate. The most engaging part of the week, though, was definitely the wild outfits that teachers and other staff members wore around campus.
“I loved hearing the stories from staff about what students were saying about their outfits,” Riley said.

From Middle College, to CalSafe, adults across campus participated in the fun dress up days. As students showed up to classes they marveled at the strange ensembles their instructors were wearing. For both staff and students, the interesting wardrobe and accessory choices were good conversation starters.
“We just played dumb, or gave them a bunch of really weird excuses when students asked why we were all wearing our pajamas,” Middle College Math teacher Allison Talbott said.
The dress up week began with Pajama Day on Monday, to follow the weekend time change. Next up, staff members sported their athletic gear on Tuesday. After working out all day Tuesday, teachers and staff donned hats on Wednesday. Thursday was denim on denim day. The week capped off with anything but a cup on Friday, which had teachers drinking from syrup jugs, soap containers, barf bags, boots and more.
