1904 Cadets burn the competition

Students faced off in the Best of the Best fire fighting competition on Saturday, March 8.

Small, but mighty–that’s an effective description for the newly formed 1904 Cadets club. While there are many students involved in the after-school events, eight students participated on Saturday, March 8 in a regional competition, aimed at showing off what they had learned. Orange Glen entered the competition as the underdogs–the club has only been working with students since the start of the school year, where many of the other schools present have had programs in place for years. Patriots also only participate in training activities outside of the school day, while the City Heights Health & Sciences Academy and Lincoln High School–the other participating schools–have academic courses built into their school day. Despite having less experience and less training, the cadets held their own throughout the competition. They even won the final event of the competition, Water Wars, where they had to use fire hoses to move a tethered ball across a rigged up line.
