On Aug. 20, the Associated Student Body hosted its annual Club Rush event in Patriot Plaza. Club Rush is an event that happens during lunch, where clubs that the opportunity to promote their programs and try and attract new members. It was also a chance for students to learn about the variety of opportunities available to them on campus.
“Our ASB secretary, Juliana Reeder, ran the whole event. We had a meeting and helped the clubs prepare. We mostly talked about respect and respecting each other,” ASB President, Lezley Bahena,12, said.
ASB focused on growing the number of clubs participating in the event. They held several meetings for students and club advisers, to make sure that everyone knew about the event and how to participate. They also used these meetings as a chance to communicate expectations with club leadership, to make sure they were fully recognized as clubs on campus.
“Last year, we had a big problem with clubs not turning in their forms to have a table. We wouldn’t know they were coming, and then clubs would come in randomly with their stuff. It felt really chaotic, so this year we really emphasized on if you don’t turn in your form you do not have a booth,” Bahena said.
In hopes of increasing attendance at Club Rush, ASB tried to advertise as much as they could. From posters, to announcements and emails to social media updates, the students worked hard to make sure that everyone knew that Club Rush was coming.
While ASB members were making posters, giving out information, and making media posts about this event, Senior Class President, Itzeth Pena, talked more about the steps it took for members to create, advertise, and overall make sure Club Rush was great for everyone.
“For promotion, we hung up posters for the ASB part. I know clubs make social media posts and also cutouts so people can take pictures with their information. The main way we promote is through our social media accounts especially the ASB accounts because we have a larger audience,” Pena said.
